Sciatic Pain Symptoms and Cause

Sciatica is a painful issue that many people have that is treated by physios. It happens from a pinch of the sciatic nerve that comes from the lower back. This can cause lower back pain, numbness, and weakness in the lower back, legs, and feet. It happens because of an injury to the sciatic nerve which is often a disc bulge pressing on it.

1. The first step in treating sciatica is to find the root cause of the issue. This may means taking a thorough history and doing movement tests to look at the nerve. Once the cause of sciatica has been identified, a physio will create a treatment plan to address the underlying issue.
2. One of the most effective physiotherapy treatments for sciatica is exercise such as stretching, strengthening, clinical pilates and low-impact cardio which can help to alleviate pain, improve flexibility, and strengthen the muscles that support the lower back.
3. Another important aspect of physiotherapy for sciatica is manual therapy. This may include techniques such as massage and hands on treatment to alleviate pain and improve movement.

Other techniques such as hot and cold therapy, TENS and traction is used to reduce pain and inflammation. It's important to remember that sciatica can take time and that regular physio can help achieve long-term results.
